⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolute Favorites

These were hands-down the best of the best for me this year.

The Love Haters by Katherine Center ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Warm, hopeful, and emotionally satisfying. This book had heart, humor, and just the right amount of depth. A true comfort read that still felt meaningful.

Bonus – this book is on Kindle Unlimited! It’s $11.99 a month, BUT I promise you’ll get your money’s worth if you read at least two books a month!

All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A powerful, haunting read that completely pulled me in. This one was intense, beautifully written, and unforgettable. Easily one of the strongest books I read all year. It was crazy because about 1/4 into the book you think the story should be over but there is SO much more!!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐½ Favorites

The Names by Florence Knapp ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

This was one of those quiet, thoughtful reads that completely surprised me. Beautifully written and emotionally layered, it explores identity and relationships in a way that feels both tender and honest. A definite highlight of my year. It gives “Closing Doors” feeling – a “what if” this had happened!

Awake: A Memoir by Jen Hatmaker ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Raw, reflective, and deeply personal. This memoir felt like sitting down with a friend who’s telling the truth—even when it’s uncomfortable. One of my favorite nonfiction reads of the year.

It’s a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Charming and heartfelt in the best way. This was one of those romances that feels both cozy and emotionally smart. I absolutely LOVE anything Annabel writes! I still think about Nora Goes Off Script all these years after I read it!

James by Percival Everett ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Sharp, powerful, and thought-provoking. This was a book that demanded attention and delivered something meaningful. It reimagines Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of the enslaved man, Jim and it is serously so amazing. I listened to it (which I highly recommend!) on Libro.fm

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong 4-Star Reads I Highly Recommend

These books may not have been perfect, but they were consistently enjoyable and memorable.

• The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood ⭐⭐⭐⭐
• Reynolds Protective Series by Rebecca Sharp ⭐⭐⭐⭐ {KU Titles!}
• Work in Progress by Kat Mackenzie ⭐⭐⭐⭐
• Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry ⭐⭐⭐⭐
• Good Grief by Sara Goodman Confino ⭐⭐⭐⭐¼
• One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune ⭐⭐⭐⭐¼ {KU Title!}
• All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers ⭐⭐⭐⭐
• Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid ⭐⭐⭐⭐¼
• Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston ⭐⭐⭐⭐

These were solid, enjoyable reads that I’d happily recommend if you like contemporary fiction, romance, or book-club-style novels. I also went hard on Piper Rayne this year – it was a heavy year personally and I needed an escape!

I read way more books that I loved! Make sure to check ’em out over on Fable or follow me over on my bookstagram, Molly’s Lucky Reads.

As usual, picking books for my Summer Reads list is no easy task. How do you narrow it down when there are so many fantastic options? I’ve read over 100 books in the past year, so cutting it down to just a few favorites was definitely a challenge! From thrilling mysteries to heartwarming fiction, there’s something for everyone in this year’s list.

I always have multiple books going at once – an audiobook, a kindle read, and a hardcover,—so that’s my secret to getting through so many titles each year! Whether I’m soaking up the sun, driving from one kid camp to another or relaxing inside, you’ll always find me with a book in hand. ?

Follow Lucky Reads!

Over on bookstagram I often share what I’m reading! Give it a follow and you can see what I’m currently reading and loving {or not loving!}

Books You Should Read in Summer of 2025

I’ve rounded up a list of the must read books that you should definitely add to your TBR list this summer! I’ll be honest – 2025 has been rough personally so I’ve been reading a lot more “light” reads {to escape reality!} than I usually do.

Good Grief

In Good Grief by Sara Goodman Confino, widow Barbara Feldman is adjusting to life with her two children in 1963 when her mother-in-law, Ruth, unexpectedly moves in to help. Living together certainly tests boundaries {and sparks humor!} both women embark on a journey of healing and unexpected connection.

Careless People

Holy smokes! Listening to this book made me want to immediately delete the apps from my phone ? A former Facebook executive Sarah Wynn-Williams offers a candid memoir detailing her experiences within the company

Say You’ll Remember Me

I will read whatever Abby Jiminez publishes. I love her flawed characters. They face actual real-life stuff that we all deal with!

Samantha and Xavier share a magical first date before life’s challenges pull them apart—her mother’s dementia and his estranged family. Despite the distance, they try to turn a fleeting moment into a lasting love.

Work in Progress

This was a surprise book I got from The Book Drop. It was SO cute! Reeling from a breakup and job loss, Alice impulsively joins a literary bus tour across the UK. Expecting a group of adventurous women her age, she instead finds herself on a quirky journey with octogenarians and a handsome, infuriating Scottish tour guide, leading to unexpected adventures and self-discovery. I found myself smiling throughout – highly recommend Work in Progress!

The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits

Sister Cassie and Zoe Grossberg achieve fleeting fame in the early 2000s as a pop duo, only to see their band dissolve after a personal tragedy. Two decades later, Zoe’s daughter, Cherry, embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind their rise and fall, leading to revelations that challenge their past and present relationships.

The Favorites

The best way to describe this book is a cross between The Cutting Edge {am I aging myself!} and Daisy Jones and the Six. Young athletics rise from troubled childhoods to become Olympic ice dancing champions and then get embroiled in all sorts of scandals.

It is a SUPER fun listen because the characters are all narrated by someone different. Far-fetched, but entertaining, nonetheless!

Great Big Beautiful Life

I’ve honestly never read an Emily Henry book I haven’t loved. Alice and Hayden are invited to Little Crescent Island to write the biography of the elusive heiress Margaret Ives. Competing for the opportunity, they uncover fragmented pieces of Margaret’s past. This was also a great listen because the one-and-only Julie Whelan narrates.

It’s a Love Story

Annabel Monaghan books will always be on my Summer Reading list. All of her characters are perfectly imperfect and I believe I could be any or all of them ?

Jane Jackson is a former child star turned Hollywood producer. She has a professional crisis when she falsely claims she can secure a song from pop star Jack Quinlan for her film. To cover her lie, she teams up with Dan Finnegan, a cinematographer and her former crush, leading to a week-long trip to Dan’s hometown.

Books I Want to Read in Summer of 2025

Eat Post Like

Love a book that makes it seem someone has their life together. Spoiler: none of us do!

Sounds Like Love

Quirky is the best compliment I can give Ashley Poston’s books! They’re always a little different, but deeply enjoyable! Can’t wait to dig into Sounds Like Love.

Battle of the Book Stores

Two rival bookstore owners find themselves competing for the same prime space. Enemies to lovers? Say less!

Atmosphere

I love Taylor Jenkins Reid. Honestly, I don’t love

Our Last Vineyard Summer

I’m obsessed with anything and everything that happens on Martha’s Vineyard! Can’t wait to dig into this one {which seems a little deeper than everything else on my list}

Mean Moms

Every time I visit NYC, I wonder about the fancy people that live in that fancy part of the City. Can’t wait to read Emma’s take on them in this book!

Everyone Here is Lying

Secrets and more secrets are uncovered in the latest from Shari Lapena.

The Academy

While I’m devastated there is no Nantucket book from my bestie Elin this year, I am thrilled to read her latest with her daughter {which doesn’t come out till September, but I’m still excited!]

But here’s the good news: with the right strategies, prepping NGSS aligned units can be a breeze. This post is packed with tips to save you time, simplify your science lesson planning, and make NGSS feel achievable for any K-2 classroom teacher. Let’s dive in!

Start Small: Focus on One NGSS Strand at a Time

The NGSS can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to teach all three dimensions at once. Instead of tackling everything at once, focus on one NGSS strand or concept as a good starting point. Starting small allows you to build confidence and create meaningful, hands-on inquiry experiences for your students.

• Use relatable phenomena as a starting point. Pick a relatable question from your students’ daily lives. For example, “Why does ice melt faster in some places?” This engages curiosity and taps into prior knowledge.
• Explore foundational concepts through hands-on inquiry. My post on Sound & Light Science Experiments is a great starting point. It includes easy-to-follow activities that align with NGSS and let students explore with different materials.
• Celebrate progress, not perfection. Focus on one dimension at a time—whether it’s cross-cutting concepts, disciplinary core ideas, or science practices. This keeps your lessons manageable and impactful.

Use What You Have: Everyday Items as Science Tools

You don’t need expensive kits to deliver a meaningful science lesson. Many hands-on learning experiences can be created with everyday items already in your classroom or easily sourced through parent donations.

• Get creative with household items. Paper towels, rubber bands, and even cups can become tools for exploring the scientific method.
• Tie lessons into the real world. My post on Plants & Animals: Structure & Function shares how everyday observations can lead to deep learning.
• Make it a community effort. Parents are often happy to help! A quick note home can bring in supplies like cotton balls or shoeboxes for hands-on experiments.

By utilizing what you already have, you’ll not only save time but also show students how science is connected to their daily lives.

Incorporate Technology for Hands-On Inquiry

In today’s classrooms, technology is a game-changer—especially for science prep. Digital tools save time and make lessons more interactive.

• Use apps like Seesaw or Epic! These platforms are excellent for sharing student work, building background knowledge, and exploring science topics.
• Explore virtual field trips. Bring the wonders of the world into your classroom with NGSS-aligned trips to aquariums or museums.
• QR codes for research: Create QR codes that link to kid-friendly science videos or resources. This encourages independent exploration and saves you prep time.

Batch Prep Materials: Work Smarter, Not Harder

Batching isn’t just for meal prep—it’s a lifesaver for lesson planning, too! By organizing materials and lessons in advance, you can set yourself up for success and reduce day-to-day stress.

• Prepare materials in bulk: Cut, label, and organize supplies for multiple lessons at once. Use clear bins or labeled folders to keep everything in order.
• Create reusable kits: Develop pre-made science kits with commonly used items like rulers, magnifying glasses, and sticky notes. These kits are a lifesaver during hands-on inquiry activities.
• Schedule prep time: Dedicate one planning period each week to focus solely on science prep. A consistent routine can make a big difference.

Leverage Pre-Made NGSS Aligned Units

One of the easiest ways to simplify NGSS lesson prep is by using pre-made resources designed specifically for K-2 classrooms. My NGSS aligned units for first grade are thoughtfully created to save you time while ensuring student learning stays front and center.

• Example lesson plans: Each unit includes step-by-step instructions for delivering engaging, standards-aligned lessons.
• Hands-on activities: From building models to conducting experiments, these activities make the scientific method approachable and fun.
• Minimal prep required: Most materials are items you already have or can request from parents, making it easy to implement without stress.

Simplifying NGSS lesson prep isn’t about doing more—it’s about working smarter. Whether you start with a good starting point, incorporate technology, or leverage pre-made NGSS aligned units, these strategies will help you feel confident and prepared. Remember, even small changes can lead to meaningful improvements in student learning and engagement.

So, take a deep breath and try one strategy this week. Need even more support? Browse my NGSS resources to discover how they can transform your science lessons and save you valuable time.

One of the positive things that came out of the pandemic is the ability to take our students places we couldn’t get together as a class before! Virtual field trips for elementary students have become a game-changer for teachers, offering immersive, interactive experiences that captivate students while eliminating logistical challenges like travel costs and permission slips.

These trips aren’t just fun—they’re powerful tools for boosting engagement, inspiring creativity, and making cross-curricular connections. Ready to explore the possibilities? Let’s dive into seven virtual field trips that will transport your students around the world and beyond.

Why Virtual Field Trips Work Wonders

• Engagement Boost: Virtual field trips provide a sense of adventure, sparking curiosity and excitement.
• Cross-Curricular Learning: These trips naturally integrate into subjects like ELA, social studies, and science.
• Accessibility: With just a device and internet access, every student can explore world-class museums, landmarks, and beyond.

Tip for Teachers: Pair virtual field trips with writing assignments or discussions to deepen the learning experience and tie it to curriculum standards.

7 Virtual Field Trips to Explore with Your Students

Here are the seven virtual elementary field trip ideas we will look at:

1. The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
2. San Diego Zoo
3. NASA’s Virtual Tours

Take a walk on the wild side with live animal cams and virtual exhibits from one of the world’s most famous zoos.

Classroom Tie-In:

• Creative Writing: Ask students to write an animal’s diary entry about its day at the zoo.
• Persuasive Writing: Have students craft letters advocating for wildlife conservation.

One of my very favorite projects we make in the Spring are these darling explorers that house an animal report. You can make these cuties after your visit! Students can simply choose an animal they saw on the trip and research it with books from your school or local library.

NASA’s Virtual Tours

From the International Space Station to the Mars Rover, NASA’s virtual tours bring space exploration to life.

Classroom Tie-In:

• Story Writing: Challenge students to write a fictional adventure about traveling to Mars.

Ellis Island Immigration Museum

Step into the shoes of immigrants arriving in America through this interactive virtual tour.

Classroom Tie-In:

• American Symbols: Since this may be over the heads of the youngest students, an easy tie-in would be to chat about the American Symbols and mention the importance of Ellis Island.

The Louvre Museum

From the Mona Lisa to ancient artifacts, The Louvre offers a treasure trove of art and history and will be a memorable virtual field trip for your students.

Classroom Tie-In:

• Descriptive Writing: Have students describe a piece of art in vivid detail. Focus on adjectives!

The Night We Lost Him

In The Night We Lost Him, Nora and her estranged brother Sam try to figure out how their father really died. As they investigate, they unravel hidden family secrets that challenge everything they thought they knew about him. It’s the perfect amount of suspense and twists.

Elsie Silver

The best way to showcase all of my favorite reads from Elsie this year is this graphic from her Instagram. I LOVE a good series and Elsie does a fabulous job weaving these friends throughout the novels. The Gold Rush Ranch and Chestnut Springs series carried me through the summer. Heads up – these are spicy books!

A Novel Love Story

Who doesn’t love a slow-burn romance? In A Novel Love Story, Elsy Merriweather finds herself magically transported into the fictional world of her favorite romance series. As she navigates the town and meets its characters, she grows closer to the mysterious bookstore owner, Anders, who harbors secrets of his own. Like all Ashley Poston books, there’s a blend of magical realism and real-life themes.

The Covenant of Water

The Covenant of Water was by far the heaviest {both in weight and story!} I read in 2024. It is a beautiful multigenerational saga set in India from 1900 to 1977. The story follows the Parambil family, who are plagued by a mysterious condition that causes members to drown across generations. It is written so beautifully.

I listened to this book on Libro.fm and I would highly recommend taking the time to listen instead of read. It’s 972 pages and 31+ hours to read! However, when I listen to any books I always speed up the reader so it cuts it down! But the author himself reads it and it is so much more incredible to enjoy the book as he intended.

Until Next Summer

In Until Next Summer, former best friends Jessie and Hillary reconnect at an adults-only summer camp as they attempt to rekindle their friendship and save their beloved Camp Chickawah from being sold. This book honestly made me want to sign up for adult summer camp immediately!

One Last Shot

One Last Shot is a book about second chances. The story follows supermodel Emerson and photographer Theo who were inseparable as teens and made a marriage pact if they were still single by the time they turned 28.

A decade later, Emerson and Theo reconnect during a fashion photoshoot in the gorgeous Cinque Terre. Old feelings pop up and they navigate their complicated past to determine if this reunion is a fresh start or a final farewell. I could NOT put this book down. I absolutely loved it.

Behind Every Good Man

I love a book set in a time that I have not lived through! Behind Every Good Man follows Beverly Diamond, a housewife who discovers her husband’s infidelity and decides to challenge him by joining the political campaign of his rival.

As Beverly grows into a fierce and savvy political strategist, she also reclaims her independence and redefines her role as a woman in a time of limited opportunities. This book will have you laughing out loud! Oh, and it’s written by a high school English teacher which makes it even cooler!

The Husbands

The Husbands is a quirky and funny with a hefty dose of magical realism. When Lauren returns home one night, she is shocked to find a man claiming to be her husband, even though she’s never been married. As her attic begins producing an endless stream of new “husbands,” Lauren must figure out how to navigate endless possibilities in love and life. I listened to The Husbands on libro.fm and it was definitely a fun listen!

The Last Party

Do you love a good psychological thriller, too? The Last Party by A.R. centers around Perla Wultz, a seemingly perfect wife and mother living in a gated community in Pasadena. But Perla is consumed by a dark secret connected to a decades-old crime.

I read way more books that I loved! Make sure to check ’em out over on Goodreads or follow me over on my bookstagram, Molly’s Lucky Reads.

Make sure to charge up your Kindles and add these books to your wishlist! Would you add anything to this list? Leave a comment and let me know – I’m always looking for new titles to add to my To-Be-Read list!

Picking books to add to my Summer Reads list is one of my favorite things to do each year! {You can catch up on my 2023’s Summer Reads here and my Best of 2023 Reads here}

Picking books to add to this list is tricky! How can I pick just a few of my favorites?

I read over 90 books in the last year, so carving this list to just a few of my faves was a task! I will read pretty much anything {except for sci-fi or super scary books!} My favorite genres are fiction and thrillers.

I always have three books going at once – a book on my kindle, a hardcover, and an audiobook. So that’s the secret for how I read so many books!

Follow Lucky Reads!

Books You Should Read This Summer

Okay, in no particular order, here are the books that should definitely make it on your TBR list this summer! I’ve included both light reads and some that require a little more of your attention span.

Swan Song

I am SO sad that Swan Song is Elin’s final Nantucket Book. But goodness…it was an absolute perfect end to her ode to this island! What will I do next summer without an ACK book?

You may remember last year that I was a character in The Five Star Weekend! Well, there’s a dog named Molly this year…not gonna say that’s me, but who’s going to argue 😉

Remember when I met Elin a couple of summers ago on ACK? I just like to share this picture of us whenever I can ?

Funny Story

Emily Henry’s latest book is a winner! I’ve loved them all and this was no exception!

Daphne is jilted by her fiance shortly before her wedding. If you’ve ever been dumped, you’ll love this book. It’s witty and has loveable characters.

I listened to this book on libro.fm. It’s my favorite place to get my audiobooks since the proceeds goes to a local independent bookstore of your choice! And the fabulous Julia Whelan read it so of course it was amazing!

Same Time Next Summer

Every summer should include an Annalbe Monaghan book!

Ali’s life is falling apart – her mom died and her husband left her. She doesn’t want to wear real pants {relatable?!} She meets a man at the dog park who gives her hope.

This book is the perfect summer read!

Behind Every Good Man

Have you read any Sara Goodman Confino books yet? DO IT! Her books are so entertaining and well-written. And the best part? She’s a teacher!

Beverly catches her husband cheating on her and decides to leave him – something scandalous for the time. She joins an aspiring politician on his hourey to get elected.

I’ve read a few of her books and I love that they are set in a bygone era. It’s hard to wrap my head around that women were not able to do things like be on the deed of a house or have their own credit card! Wild how far we’ve come {and yet still so far to go}

This book doesn’t come out till August but seriously pre-order it! You’ll fall in love with the characters!

The Women

This may be the first Kristin Hannah book I’ve read recently that did not make me cry. Now, don’t get me wrong. There are definitely sad parts but it didn’t gut me like her other books.

It’s an eye-opening look into the important {but not acknowledged} role women had in the Vietnam War. This book kept reminding me of the huge sacrifices people make when joining the Armed Forces and certainly gave me an even bigger appreciation.

The Rom-Commers

I always love the fun twists Katherine Center creates on the traditional romance novel tropes.

Emma is waiting for her big break into Hollywood as a screenwriter and she’s given an opportunity of a lifetime – to fix up the famous Charlie Yates most recent {and horrendous} screenplay. It’s a fun back and forth of bickering and deep understanding of each other. Loved it!

First Lie Wins

I listened to First Lie Wins and it was all sorts of twisty goodness. Definitely not scary {no need to wait for daylight for this one} but lots of, “what is going on?” thoughts!

Books I Want to Read This Summer

Here are a few books that I can’t wait to get my hands on this summer!

A Novel Love Story

Have you ever read anything by Ashely Poston? I honestly can’t describe what they are – just that they are unique plots with quirky characters. I can’t wait to read her latest!

This Summer Will Be Different

I am anxious to read Carley Fortune’s latest. I loved her debut novel but wasn’t a huge fan of last year’s summer reads. Hoping This Summer Will Be Different…well, is different haha!

The Paris Widow

“WHAT” is my thought for every single Kimberly Belle book I read – her plot twists are so much fun to keep up with. I can’t wait for The Paris Widow.

The Next Mrs. Parrish

Years ago I read The Last Mrs. Parrish and oh.my.word. It was un-put-down-able! I can’t wait to dig into The Next Mrs. Parrish {although there is no way it can be as good!}

The Unwedding

Do you get excited when a book takes place in a place you’ve been? I do! The Unwedding is a who-dun-it I can’t wait to add to my Kindle!

What Have You Done?

This is another book that comes out late summer but I’ve already pre-ordered because I know Shari Lapena’s books are always a great thriller.

Husbands & Lovers

I am a sucker for a dual perspective/dual timeline book. Husbands & Lovers seems like it will be a summer hit and I’m excited to read it!

Do you have any books that I must read? Leave me a comment and let me know!
