For years I’ve read the same back-to-school books but let’s be honest, I’m kinda getting bored of those classics!

So, I’ve rounded up my current faves! Keep in mind…these may not be “new” but they’re new to me!

School’s First Day of School

It’s not just students who are nervous about being back to school, even School is!

We Don’t Eat Our Classmates

This is a favorite bedtime story in our home. Luke thinks it’s simply hilarious! This year I brought his copy into my classroom and the kids thought it was a hoot!

Truman

This is THE cutest story about bravery! When Truman the tortoise’s best friend Sarah heads off to school for her first day, Truman has his own adventure.

Linus the Little Yellow Pencil

This sweet book focuses on getting along and compromising when you don’t always want to! Darling illustrations and a wonderful message to share with your students.

The Book of Rules

This interactive read-aloud reviews classroom rules in a super silly story. Kids will love it and it’s the perfect beginning of the year book!

Just Ask

This book is perfect to read at the beginning of the year. It celebrates the differences we all have and encourages kids to “Just Ask” if they are curious.

You’re Finally Here!

A story that covers ALL the emotions of starting something new! You’re Finally Here will have your students cracking up!

If you want to extend the read-aloud, check out these Story Sticks. You simply grab a stick, read it aloud, and invite your students to respond. They’re also the perfect activity to use during your Guided Reading groups, too!
