I think I promised in my last post that it wouldn’t take me so long to write my next post. Well, things happen. BIG things!
Last week, JB unexpectedly popped into my classroom. This struck me as odd because he has an “adult” job that doesn’t really allow him to leave work. Well, he was there on VERY important business!
Long story short, he popped into my classroom and popped a very important question! After a bunch of tears and begging him not to kneel on the germ-infested floor, I said yes!
Sadly, I was wearing my lame school spirit wear and my hair was in a braid! I guess it’s good for him to know what he signed up for 🙂
We celebrated by heading over to the Ritz in Half Moon Bay and enjoying a little bubbly {my fave!}
It was so fun to go to school the following day and see the adorable sign my sweet friend Bono made me {and the notes she left for my class and me!}
It was even more adorable when my kiddos started screaming as soon as they read the news! I even had a few offers for flower girls! My favorite comment overheard from one student, “I’m SO excited I could just scream!” Me too, my friend, me too!
One of my pre-engagement projects was Wake Up Workouts – Before the Bell Activities! I am SO pumped about these new tasks/activities/time fillers!
As I was chatting with my bloggy friends from across the country, I realized that there’s this crazy “rule” {for lack of a better word!} that students show up to school before the bell even rings!
In my district here in the Bay Area {as with many districts in the area} kids are not bussed to school – they show up at bell time! When my friends told me that they need to open their door up to 45 minutes before the bell rings…I gasped! “What are you supposed to do with the kids?” I asked. Well, apparently, you’re not allowed to teach anything new OR grade anything!
So, an idea was hatched! I created simple themed activities for each month! The kids can simply grab a stick and scratch paper and go to town! It’s a mix of language arts and math skills presented in a fun way!
Here’s a peek at the October Wake Up Workouts!
To prep your workouts, you simply print, cut and glue onto a stick! I chose to laminate my set so they last a little longer! Then, I found a tin I had shoved in the back of a closet and added the “title!”
Kids can simply grab an activity and take it to their seat!
Since my class shows up at the bell, I plan to use these activities for quick 5 minute fillers, occasional morning work activities for the class, or even brain breaks!
And, check out even more word work activities here.
