Summer Reading List {2021}

It’s time for me to share my Summer Reading List! This is seriously my favorite blog post of the entire year {you can catch up on My Favorite Books of 2020 here and 2020’s Summer Reads here!}

Every year when I get this post ready, I look back at all the books I’ve read in the past 12 months and decide what are my top summer reads are! In the last year, I’ve read 80+ books, so this summer reading list was hard to come up with!

Summer is here and it's time to read all the books! Check out my summer reading list for 2021!

Books You Should Read This Summer

One of the upsides of staying home for months on end is that I had lots of time to read. But because there was so much heavy stuff going on in the world, I tended to read a lot of “light reads”

{FYI: I define a light-read as any plot where people take off their clothes or fall in love and perhaps both in the same story – ha! They are books where you don’t really have to think too much!}

Okay, in no particular order, here are the books that should definitely make it on your TBR list this summer! I’ve included both light reads and some that definitely require a little more of your attention span.

People We Meet on Vacation

I really loved Emily Henry’s Beach Read last year…my sister hated it and couldn’t understand the hype! {I do think it was an odd title for the book but loved the story between the characters!} But, The People You Meet on Vacation was such a good read!

I think we can all relate to a friendship that has gone off the rails that we want to get back. This book takes place over many vacations throughout the years between Poppy and Alex – two friends who are so different but destined to be friends.

You Deserve Each Other

I could not put down You Deserve Each Other! Naomi and Nicholas were so in love…until they weren’t! This fun story plays out what we all want to do to our significant other sometimes 😉

I can’t wait to read Sarah’s latest release, Twice Shy.

Black Buck

Black Buck was such an amazing book. A charismatic barista becomes a salesman. This I actually listened to Black Buck and the narrator was phenomenal! I sometimes enjoy listening to people read to me {which totally makes sense why students are actually quiet during reading aloud time, right?}

I get my audiobooks from libro.fm. The sale goes to a local independent bookstore of your choice.

28 Summers

I am not exaggerating when I say Elin’s 28 Summers is one of my all-time favorite reads. The story spans well, 28 Summers of Mallory’s life. Each chapter begins with a summary of all the important things that happened in that year. I am SO excited that Elin has teased a novella to this!

My Lovely Wife

I know I added My Lovely Wife to my Best of 2020 reads but it is SO good that I had to make sure I included for the summer reading list too. You guys…it is SO good! And when you read the last page?! Ahhhhh – I need a sequel for sure!

Sarah Adams

Sarah Adams writes the cutest {and innocent!} light reads. Her Charleston series includes two books: The Enemy and the Match. Her Nashville series includes two books: The Off-Limits Rule and The Temporary Roomie.

I love when a book has cross-over characters because it feels like I’m catching up with friends. And since I didn’t see many friends in the last year, I had to settle for book friends 🙂

All of her books are just feel-good books that will leave you smiling {and wanting to travel to these fun cities!}

Shipped is an enemies to lovers story that I promise will have you quickly turning the pages! I read it back when it was chilly out and it made me desperately want to go on vacation!

The Four Winds

If you have never read any Kristin Hannah book, this is the summer to binge! Seriously, no other author does such a beautiful job capturing everyday human emotions. My favorite of all time is Firefly Lane {which is WAY different than the series on Netflix, FYI}

The Four Winds chronicles the life of a family over many years who are faced with many hardships of pioneer America.

Spoiler for any Kristin Hannah book: you will need tissues! I didn’t think I was going to cry on this one…and in the final pages I was a blubbering mess.

Books I Want to Read This Summer

Golden Girl

It is not a summer reading list unless there is an Elin Hildebrand novel! I am so excited for her latest, Golden Girl.

I’m pumped because my niece bought me a signed copy for Mother’s Day from Nantucket Books and I will be stalking my mailbox the first week of June for it to arrive!

Local Woman Missing

I am SO excited to start reading Local Woman Missing. I LOVE Mary Kubica! The Other Mrs. has made my must-read list in the past. This author is so good at thrillers!

Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty

I am a HUGE Lauren Weisberger fan {since the very beginning with the Devil Wears Prada!} Some of her books are hit or miss, but I still enjoy reading them with all their cattiness and girl drama.

I’m super excited for this year’s release, Where the Grass is Green and the Girls Are Pretty {Do not even try to pretend that you didn’t sing that title!}

The Last Thing He Told Me

I am so excited to get started with The Last Thing He Told Me. It’s been ALL over Instagram and people have raved about it. A husband disappears and it’s up to the ex-wife and new wife to figure out what happened. Ummm…yes, please!

I actually got my copy from Book of the Month {which is probably my favorite mail to come home to each month!} I’m counting down the days till I can crack open this one on a beach!

The Maidens

One of the books that I cannot stop thinking about {even years later} is The Silent Patient. I can honestly say that the twist at the end is probably the best twist I’ve ever read in a book. So, of course, I am thrilled that Alex Michaelides has The Maidens coming out this summer.

College women in a secret society {The Maidens} are getting murdered. A woman is convinced the killer is a charismatic professor so she works tirelessly to prove it. Release day can’t come soon enough for this one!

The Soulmate Equation

If you’ve ever seen me over on Instagram, you know I am a sucker for a good Christine Lauren book. This duo puts out the cutest love stories! I’ve already got The Soulmate Equation on my Kindle ready to go for a cross-country flight I have coming up. I will seriously be the grinning goofball on the plane as I read this.

Malibu Rising

To say I am obsessed with Taylor Jenkins Reid books would be an understatement! I can’t even explain why her books are so good…they just are!

She writes extremely complex characters and you truly feel like you know these people. My favorite all-time book by her is Maybe in Another Life {but seriously, they are all SO good!}

That Summer

In the past, Jennifer Weiner has been very hit or miss for me. But, I’m super excited to read her latest That Summer because I loved her 2020 release, Big Summer.

If you are adventurous in your reading, you should definitely check out Kindle Unlimited. I’ve discovered so many great reads and it’s a deal! You can read unlimited books each month for just $9.99 {and your first 30 days is free so you can see if you like it before you commit!

If you like some of these suggestions, make sure to follow me on Instagram. I often share the books I read using the hashtag #luckyreads.  Are you on Goodreads? Let’s be friends! I also put all of my “bookshelf” above over on Amazon!

  1. The best book I read this year is “the Rose Code”. Everyone I passed it on to gave it 5 stars. It’s an historical fiction about three young women from the UK who get jobs in a highly secretive mission to crack the codes the Germans set in WW2. It’s a love story and a mystery and suspenseful too!

  2. I read/listened to The Last Thing He Told Me and it was absolutely AMAZING!!! The author definitely keeps you on the edge of your Seay and each page /chapter is better than the next
