Is the countdown to summer on in your classroom yet?! As the school year comes to an end, we’re all looking forward to the upcoming summer break. However, it can be difficult to keep your students engaged just before the summer. Keep reading to learn how I use math games to keep my kids learning and having fun!
Centers in a Snap is a set of ready-to-go math games for Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade classrooms that save you time and energy! You will never need to run around and gather games, materials or supplies! These standards-based games make sure your students are having FUN during Math time while practicing foundational math skills!
Centers in a Snap can be prepped in less than one prep period. Seriously, you just open the box, cut a few pieces, and add the games to your classroom. And the best part is that once you prep the games, they’ll be set for years in your classroom!
Ready for the best part? EVERYTHING you need for the math games is included in the Centers in a Snap box so you don’t need to scour the shelves at any store. Mindblowing, right?
I’ve created three different math game boxes for June to choose from: June Kindergarten Math Games, June 1st Grade Math Games, and June 2nd Grade Math Games.
All games were created to be skill-appropriate {and standards based} for the current month using fun Summer Themes of summer, sunshine, ice cream, and the ocean.
Read on to take a peek at a few of the games included in June’s Centers in a Snap box!
Game Directions
As teachers we get tired of repeating the same directions over and over, right? Well, I’m solving that problem! Every Centers in a Snap game includes a QR code. When your student scans the QR code, I show them how to play it so you don’t have to!
Materials needed are listed on the direction cards, too. Just in case your student happens to forget how to play, they can simply scan the QR code and get a quick refresher. Each of the videos is between 2- 4 minutes so it won’t cut too much into their playtime!
June Games
Keep reading to take a peek at a few of June’s Math Games {and hang out till the bottom where you can snag a FREE June game!} What’s fun about this month’s games is that since it’s the end of the school year, the skills can be a bit more challenging across the grade levels!
Please note: all of the game pictures below are from the 1st Grade Centers in a Snap June box. However, there are notes below each game to show how the different grade levels vary slightly.
Scoops of Sums
In first grade, kids must be able to add tens and this yummy game will give them just the practice they need.
To play, students roll two 0-90 dice and add them together. They then cover the number on their gameboard. The first player to use all of his/her counters first is the winner!
Kindergarten: students roll one ten-sided die and add ten
2nd Grade: students roll two dice, add and multiply by 10
Fishing for Fractions
Tell me I’m not alone that my students are still struggling with fractions at this point in the year! I honestly think it’s lack of exposure {because our book skims righhhhhtttt over it!}
To play, students spin the spinner and over the corresponding fraction on his/her gameboard. First player to cover up all of the spots first wins!
Kindergarten: students focus tens frames
2nd Grade: students focus on telling time
Under the Sea Problems
In May’s Centers in a Snap box I included adition word problems. So since they’ve mastered those {wink-wink} it’s time for subtraction word problems!
Students roll the twenty-sided die and fill in the first blank, then roll again with the ten-sided die for the second blank. The student rereads the math problem aloud and solves it!
Kindergarten: Simple addition Word Problems using sight words
2nd Grade: students use two twenty-sided dice to fill in problems
Summer Tangrams
This activity is just plain fun! Students will use the tangrams to create the summer picture. It’s great for spatial awareness!
Kindergarten: same as first grade
2nd Grade: pictures are one color {but this version is included in digital download}
Diggin’ Up Differences
In May’s box I included an addition version of this game! Diggin’ Up Differences gives your students a chance to practice double-digit subtraction {without regrouping} this month. To play, they take turns spinning, subtracting, and covering up the number on the board. The first player to use up his/her six counters first is the winner! A worksheet is included for students to record their answers, too.
Kindergarten: subtraction from 10
2nd Grade: larger numbers {with regrouping}
Sunny Facts
True or False facts is always a skill we’re working on in my first grade. This month gets a bit trickier by mixing addition and subtraction on either side of the equal sign! For accountability, a worksheet is included.
Kindergarten: sums to 5
2nd Grade: larger numbers
