Parent Tip: Teaching Necessary Life Skills

Let’s be frank: we do A LOT in a small amount of time in our 180 days with our students. But honestly, we can’t do it all, right? So that’s why it is so important to make sure we have a strong connection with our students’ families right from the start of the school year! One of the things I hammer home at Back to School Night is that your child will learn the academics…it’s the life skills we need to make sure we spend a lot of time on.

I share with parents that yes, their child will learn to read and yes, their child will develop more advanced math skills. Quite honestly that stuff will happen over time whether I drill it into them or not!

But what doesn’t happen is growing a good person! It’s through our work together at home and school that our students will grow into good people.

Share Life Skills Ideas with Your Families

I’ve created a list of necessary life skills to share with families. Of course, we’ll work on some of these in the classroom, but we’ll need to have a little help at home to make sure our students master these life skills!

A clipboard with a "15 Life Skills to Develop with Your Child" list on it, surrounded by colorful educational toys, a pencil, and a notepad.

My mom always told my niece and nephews when they started school {and Luke got the same lecture as he headed off to Kindergarten last week 😭} that people will most likely not remember how smart you were, but they will always remember how kind you are.
