Whew, I survived the first week of school! And man am I exhausted! I always forget how much talking you do during this first week! Thank goodness I’ve got the long weekend to recover 🙂
Today, I’m sharing a few things I do to make my kiddos feel welcome in my classroom. My big goal is for all students to feel welcome in our classroom from the moment they see their name on my roster!This year, I sent a little treat in the mail! Who doesn’t love getting mail {especially when you’re six!}

I also whipped up a fun Back to School Poster to make our classroom bright & cheery! Lucky you, I’m sharing 😉
Use the fab directions from Dragonflies in First to make it poster sized! I also needed a little help from my girl Vera, too!
Are your kids totally into Rainbow Loom bracelets? I LOVE that kids are working on their fine motor skills while creating something adorable!To welcome my kiddos back to school, I asked my niece to whip up a class set of rings and bracelets for the kids! As they were getting settled into the classroom on the first day, I walked around and shared this treat with each of them.

I am totally in love with my classroom door this year – 1st Grade Makes Us “App”y! The kids love seeing their names on their iPad!
Check it out Editable Back to School Display in my shop!
And using my Silhouette Cameo, I quickly made this fun welcome for my door!
It makes me smile every time! And I can’t wait for the entire class to recognize this environmental print!
A few other things I think are important for students:
- their own desk
- their own supplies
- their own cubbies & hooks
I want kids to have the chance to take some ownership of some things in the classroom!
What are your favorite ways to create a classroom community?
Slainte!

I love the rainbow loom idea. My kids were crazy about them last year. I feel like I need to get a Silhouette after that awesome door decor you did!

You did a great job of making your students feel welcome! I can only imagine how excited they were over seeing their own tablet displayed on the door, and getting that special delivery in the mail. So sweet of you!

Getting mail is always exciting. Heck, I still get excited to get mail as long as it is NOT a bill! HAHA! I love your appy door. Too stinkin' cute.
